which prevents overpronation and provides arch support.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"32\">This shoe is supportive in\u00a0<em>trail runners<\/em>.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"52\">It&#8217;s still a running shoe, and a &#8220;low-drop&#8221; shoe, which places it at the lower end support continuum for hiking boots.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"36\">Drop refers to the height difference between a shoe&#8217;s toe and heel.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"48\">For added support and shock absorption, traditional &#8220;high drop&#8221; running shoes and traditional hiking shoes add heel cushioning and structure to the underfoot.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"50\">This creates a &#8220;high fall&#8221; ( 1\/2&#8221;) that runs from the heel to the toe.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"40\">Zero drop shoes remove that cushion and support so the heel is level and the toe is flat.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"39\">Zero drop shoes are thought to be healthier as they mimic barefoot walking.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"46\">Zero drop shoes require runners to rely solely on their lower bodies for shock absorption, stability and support.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"43\">Topo knows that not all people can wear &#8220;minimalist&#8221; or &#8220;zero-drop&#8221; shoes.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"77\">The Ultraventure Pro, a &#8220;low drop&#8221; shoe like the Ultraventure Pro, strikes a balance between &#8220;high fall&#8221; (extra cushion\/support), and &#8220;zero&#8221; (which makes your lower back work harder).<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"53\">Ultraventure Pro&#8217;s heel has a drop of 5 millimeters and the stack height is 25 mm.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>5 mm drop: 30mm at the heel with 25mm at the toe<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"61\">My lower body fared better in Ultraventure Pro&#8217;s &#8220;low drop&#8221; Ultraventure Pro than in Altra Lone Peak&#8217;s &#8220;zero drop&#8221;.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"58\">Altra Lone Peaks were relatively easy trails and my lower body experienced problems, including strained calves as well as turned ankles.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"44\">The Ultraventure Pro has not had these problems.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"67\">They can cause fatigue in my feet on longer hikes. I felt tired after using them for a section of Pennsylvania&#8217;s Mid State Trail.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"78\">My (flat) feet, (crooked), ankles and (skinny calves) have not been injured and I feel fine on Topos with moderate terrain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"62\">The Topo Ultraventure Pro provides more support than the &#8220;zero drop&#8221; trail runners, but less than traditional hiking shoes.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"35\">Ultraventure Pro review: weight<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"56\">Hikers don&#8217;t purchase trail runners to support their hiking.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"51\">They purchase them to save weight.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"60\">The Ultraventure Pro is a light trail running shoe that meets hiking standards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"63\">My Ultraventure Pros (men\u2019s size 12) are 23 ounces each.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"94\">They are more than half a pound lighter that the average pair hiking shoes and more light than average hiking boots.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"113\">The Ultraventure Pro is lighter than my trail runners (\u00a0read my review), and slightly lighter than my older (past seasons), Altra Lone Peaks and On Cloudventures(\u00a0read review).<\/span><\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"70\">This makes the Topo Ultraventure Pro an excellent choice for those who want to be quick and light.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Ultraventure Pro review: comfort<\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"69\">Comfort depends on your personal preference, fit, physiology, hiking style and personal preference.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"68\">The Ultraventure Pro is a trail running shoe that many hikers will love.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"75\">Toe box with roomy dimensions that can accommodate swelling and gives toes space to move<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"80\">Shoes with wider toe boxes provide a more secure fit in the middlefoot than shoes that have a narrower toe box.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"49\">moderate cushioning<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"65\">Moderate arch support and light stability to prevent overpronation<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"72\">Low drop shoes offer a bit more cushioning and support than zero drop.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"71\">Lightweight mesh uppers allow for better ventilation and airflow<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure><figcaption>Ultraventure Pros feature a roomy toe box for natural toe splay<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"87\">As long as you don&#8217;t do any extreme hiking, there&#8217;s a good chance you&#8217;ll be comfortable in this shoe.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"114\">My toes have felt more comfortable over the past two months, as I alternated between hiking in the Topo Ultraventure Pros with the\u00a0Topo Trailventure 2 hiking boots\u00a0(which I consider the most comfortable).<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"91\">The Ultraventure Pro&#8217;s cushioning and light stability make them more comfortable than the Altra Lone Peak for thru-hikers.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"64\">Review of Ultraventure: Weather protection<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"79\">For keeping their feet dry, hikers generally fall into one or two categories.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"55\">The first group hikes in waterproof-breathable footwear to keep out as much moisture as possible.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"100\">The second group combines merino-blend hiking socks and lightweight trail running shoes, which will dry quickly if they get wet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"74\">The Ultraventure Pro falls into this second category.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"82\">It&#8217;s designed for breathability and ventilation, just like most running shoes.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"90\">If you are hiking in puddles, dew, or moisture, your feet may get wet quickly.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"88\">(Just an hour ago I tried to outrun a spring storm in my shoe and got soaked.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"86\">Its mesh uppers will dry quicker than hiking shoes and waterproof trail runners.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"95\">Topo has also included drainage gills that allow for the removal of any sweat or water from the shoe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"76\">The shoe is not waterproof.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"66\">Ultraventure Pro review: traction<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"111\">Ultraventure Pro comes with Vibram Megagrip soles. These outsoles are well-known for their wet\/dry traction.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"105\">The Vibram outsole is made with lugs that are widely spaced to shed snow and mud.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"102\">These lugs have sharp edges that give you some bite in gravel and scree.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"98\">Although it&#8217;s not as grippy in solid rock, it is not terrible.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"107\">This outsole is great for moderate terrain. It also treads well on single-track mountain biking trails in my region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"97\">Overall, this tread pattern is versatile and works well on many trails.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"83\">This is another Pro column check.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"73\">Ultraventure Pro review: durability<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"92\">I can&#8217;t yet judge the Ultraventure Pros durability.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"99\">They have been very reliable, but I haven\u2019t yet logged 100 miles.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"108\">However, durability limits were evident at this mileage in my Altra Lone Peaks as well as On Cloudventures last pair.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"85\">This is a plus.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"106\">Ultraventure Pro&#8217;s durability is rated high by trail runners according to customer reviews.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"103\">As my mileage increases, I&#8217;ll keep this blog updated.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"wordai-block rewrite-block enable-highlight\" data-id=\"109\">This shoe is showing good signs of being more durable than the trail running shoes I have used for hiking.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>testing the Ultraventure Pro\u2019s support &amp;
